Whispers in the Wind
“The Lord said, ‘Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.’ Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper.”
1 Kings 19:11-12
When I first started this journey of building a website and writing stories I prayed about what God wanted me to call this ministry. I was reminded about a Sunday School class I was in back in elementary. The teacher of that class had us go through the entire bible and we drew a picture for each story we read on an index card. We would hang each card on the wall and by the time we completed this task we had walls full of the bible.
One of the stories that stuck with me was from 2 Samuel, when David was going into battle with the Philistines. This was a huge battle and David asked for conformation that the Lord would be going before them. Samuel then said, “As soon as you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the poplar trees, move quickly, because that will mean the Lord has gone out in front of you to strike the Philistine army.” (2 Samuel 5:24). As a kid this grabbed my attention. God was in the wind, he was going before His people and battling with them.
The more I grew up this story stayed with me. I actually have a love/hate relationship the wind. I dislike it for two reasons, one, I despise being cold and whipping wind always finds a way to get down to your bones. Two, the wind is one of your biggest enemies when hunting, a shift in the breeze can make the animal you’re after smell you from a mile away. In my opinion, both of these reasons are very valid. However, I do genuinely love the wind as well. My love of it comes from the story I described earlier. For me when the wind blows I’m reminded that God uses His creation to sing his praises.
Another verse about God using his creation is Jeremiah 10:12-13 which says, “But God made the earth by his power; he founded the world by his wisdom and stretched out the heavens by his understanding. When he thunders, the waters in the heavens roar; he makes clouds rise from the ends of the earth. He sends lightning with the rain and brings out the wind from his storehouses.” Everything which God has made is under His control. This includes the wind, which has a purpose on this earth, just as God created us to have purpose.
Lastly, the main verse, my theme verse, 1 Kings 19:11-12, means so much to me. God’s love and power can be seen in his creation, He uses it in many different ways but when you have a relationship with Him, he will speak to you. This is different for everyone but for me, He speaks in whispers. That is how I get ideas for stories to write, how I’m convicted, and how the spirit guides my life. Through whispers because He knows me personally. Much like he did Elijah and much like He so wants to know you.
My prayer for this ministry and blog is that God will use me, His creation, to speak to you. I want to share His love and the things He is working on and revealing to me with you all. That is my greatest desire, as my story on the blog says, to increase Him and His kingdom. This is the call I feel was placed on me and I’m simply a servant of the King.
